Resolution at NIT Silchar as Authorities Accept Student Demands

Guwahati, 24th September: The situation at the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Silchar has returned to normalcy after college authorities agreed to accept the demands put forward by students following the tragic death of their fellow student, Koj Buker.

One of the key demands made by the students was the resignation of the academic dean, BK Roy. In response to the students’ concerns, the college authorities took action, removing BK Roy from his post and appointing Prof. Brinda Bhowmick as his replacement.

Prof. Brinda Bhowmick, from the department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, assumed the role from September 25.

The college authorities specified that Prof. Brinda Bhowmick is entitled to admissible allowances per existing institute rules and that her engagement is provisional for a period of two years or until further orders.
