Restoration of Singtam-Burdang Road Link in Sikkim Flash Floods Amid Ongoing Search for Missing Soldiers
Northeast Desk, 6th October: The search for the missing Indian Army personnel is ongoing, and the Indian Army continues to provide assistance with food, medical aid, and communication facilities to civilians and stranded tourists in North Sikkim.
In the efforts to locate the missing soldiers, the focus has shifted to downstream areas of the Teesta Barrage. At the incident site in Burdang near Singtam, efforts are underway to retrieve army vehicles and recover supplies.
To enhance the search operations, additional resources such as Tiranga Mountain Rescue teams, tracker dogs, and special radars have been deployed.
Meanwhile, troops from the TriShakti Corps of the Indian Army have accounted for 1471 tourists in the areas of Lachen/Chatten, Lachung, and Chungthang. With improving weather conditions on October 6th, there is a potential opportunity to evacuate stranded tourists using helicopters. This operation is being coordinated jointly by the State Government, Indian Army, and Indian Air Force.
Various agencies are conducting a survey to assess the damage and plan the restoration of road connectivity. Notably, the road link between Singtam and Burdang has been partially restored, allowing for single-lane vehicular traffic.
