Retired IAS Officer Arun Goel Assumes Charge as New Election Commissioner
Guwahati: Retired IAS officer Arun Goel took over as India’s new election commissioner on Monday.
Retired IAS officer Arun Goel from the 1985 batch serving in the Punjab cadre was appointed as Election Commissioner on Saturday.
President Droupadi Murmu announced Goel’s nomination to the Ministry of Law and Justice.
Arun Goel voluntarily resigned from his position as Secretary of Heavy Industries on Friday.
Notably, the previous election commissioner Rajiv Kumar assumed the position of Chief Election Commissioner in May of this year the position of Third Election Commissioner remained vacant.
He will serve on the Election Commission with Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar and Election Commissioner Anup Chandra Pandey.
