Rhino on the Rampage: Rare Sighting in Assam’s Jorhat
Jorhat: A rare and alarming incident unfolded in the early hours of today when an adult rhinoceros was spotted roaming through the lush paddy fields of Kakojan Tinikhuria under the Jorhat Forest Division.
Initially dismissed as a stray buffalo by local villagers, the creature’s true identity was later confirmed, sending ripples of fear and astonishment through the community. The prompt action of the villagers led them to alert both the police and the Forest Department.
Forest officials are currently en route to the site to assess the situation and devise a plan to safely relocate the animal. This isn’t the first such incident in the region. Last year, two rhinos were reported to have ventured into areas near the mighty Brahmaputra River.
With the harvest season in full swing, the unexpected intrusion of the rhinoceros has caused significant concern among the villagers. However, recent updates indicate that the animal has moved to an open area, away from the valuable crops, thereby mitigating the immediate threat to the agricultural fields.
