Rhino Poacher Injured In Police Firing In Assam

Guwahati: The rhino poacher who was arrested by the Biswanath Police has been injured when the police fired upon him as he tried to flee on Monday.

The poacher identified as Ataur Rahman alias Bassa was arrested on December 17 with the joint efforts of Biswanath and Bongaigaon police.

According to the police, Ataur attempted to flee police custody at Sadaru in Biswanath Chari Ali of Assam.

He was repeatedly warned by the police team to stop, but he refused, so they had to start shooting at him. Ataur received bullet injuries on his leg.

He has been admitted at Tezpur Medical College for advanced treatment.

It should be noted that Ataur Rahman was arrested in connection with the rhino poaching case from the previous year.

Abdul Matin alias Kala, a wanted rhino poacher, was arrested in Darrang on last Thursday. He was the main criminal responsible for the rhino poaching in Kaziranga National Park in January 2022.

The Assam Police had also offered a reward of Rs 2 lakh for information leading to the capture of two infamous rhino poachers; however they were unsuccessful in doing so.
