Rifleman Alok Rao of 18 Assam Rifles Posthumously Honored with Shaurya Chakra
Guwahati, 6th July: In a solemn ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhavan, New Delhi, Rifleman Alok Rao of 18 Assam Rifles was posthumously awarded the Shaurya Chakra by President Droupadi Murmu. The award recognizes his exceptional courage and sacrifice during a critical operation in Manipur.
Rifleman Alok Rao, a member of an Internal Security column stationed in a highly sensitive area of Manipur, exhibited extraordinary bravery in May 2023. During a fierce encounter with armed insurgents, he valiantly returned fire, thwarting a potentially devastating attack and saving numerous lives. Despite sustaining a gunshot wound, he continued to fight until his last breath, exemplifying supreme dedication and heroism.
The Shaurya Chakra, India’s third-highest peacetime gallantry award, was bestowed upon Rifleman Rao for his indomitable spirit, selfless devotion, and supreme bravery. President Droupadi Murmu presided over the poignant ceremony, where the brave soldier’s parents accepted the prestigious honor on his behalf. Rifleman Alok Rao’s valorous actions will be remembered with utmost respect and gratitude.
