RJD’s Manoj Jha Condemns Assam CM’s “Adversarial” Language Against Congress MP

New Delhi: Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) Member of Parliament Manoj Jha has delivered a scathing critique of Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, accusing him of fostering a political climate where opposition figures are treated as adversaries rather than competitors. Jha’s remarks follow a series of contentious statements made by Sarma directed at Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi, sparking widespread concern over the nature of political discourse in the nation.

Jha expressed deep unease over what he perceives as a fundamental shift in the country’s political landscape over the past decade. “If something has drastically changed in this country in the last 10–12 years, it is the mindset where the opposition is no longer seen as competitors, but as enemies,” he asserted to reporters. He decried the language employed in contemporary politics, characterizing it as “adversarial” and far removed from constructive political engagement.

The RJD parliamentarian specifically condemned Sarma’s commentary as inappropriate and unjustified, particularly when aimed at a democratically elected representative. “How can you make such remarks against an elected representative?” Jha questioned, emphasizing the need for greater political maturity and respect within the democratic process.

He further cautioned that such inflammatory rhetoric not only erodes the core principles of democracy but also subjects the nation to international scrutiny. “Other countries across the world are also watching us,” Jha warned. “You should keep your political competition within Assam and engage in a democratic fight. Personal attacks and below-the-belt remarks fall into the category of political misconduct, even crime.” The RJD leader’s intervention highlights the escalating tension between the ruling party and the opposition, with accusations of personal attacks overshadowing substantive political debate.
