Robber Shot Dead in Police Firing, Wife Claims Mistaken Identity

Guwahati: The death of a person who was shot dead by police in the Udalguri district of Assam while being targeted as a suspected robber is shrouded in mystery.

According to reports, the deceased person was identified as Kenaram Boro. However, after the deceased’s wife made some disclosures, it has come to light that her husband, Dimbeswar Basumatary, who was shot dead.

Dimbeswar’s wife said, “The person who was shot dead yesterday was my husband. Kenaram Boro had come to our house and took my husband away on Thursday. After some time I got the information that he was dead and that his body was buried by Kenaram’s family members.”

She commanded that the body of her husband be brought to her home.

An incident of a robber being shot was reported at Daiphang Khuti under the Rowta police station on Thursday. The dreaded criminal was identified as Kenaram Boro.  

Police said that a shoot-out between a police unit and the hardened robber resulted in the robber being shot and killed.

In the incident, two police officers also suffered gunshot wounds. One pistol and live cartridges were found by the cops from the spot.

However, the deceased’s wife asserts that the entire incident has been misrepresented in her statements.

Meanwhile, the victim family has contacted the police and the administration to demand justice.
