RPP to undertake ‘A Walk to Save Nagaland’ to kick-off campaign

Guwahati: The Rising People’s Party (RPP), a newly formed political party in Nagaland, announced on Friday that it will walk around the state under the theme “A Walk to Save Nagaland.” This event also marks the beginning of our campaign for Nagaland’s upcoming assembly elections.

RPP members and well-wishers will start walking from Dimapur on February 21, 2022.

According to the RPP, the walk will take place in Dimapur, Mhainamtsi, Thekrujuma, Piphema, Kohima, Jakhama, Pfutsero, Meluri, Kiphire, Tuensang, Tobu, Aboi, Wakching, Tamlu, Merangkong, Tuli, Yajang, and Niuland.

The RPP said that the walk is a round trek across Nagaland. The party further informed that the distance to be travelled is around 1200 kilometres, with an expected walking time of 40 days. The party is travelling through the foothills in particular to underscore the state government’s indifference to requests from all sides, it added.

“The walk is a philosophy for the RPP, as well as a fantastic vehicle for sharing the party’s ideas and goals with our people.” The walk’s other goal is to reach out to the grassroots and listen to their problems and visions for a new Nagaland, according to the party. “Under the theme ‘A Walk to Save Nagaland,’ the RPP hopes to draw attention to issues that have kept the state behind for far too long,” it added.

According to the RPP, it is a Walk Against Corruption and to Save Nagaland from Self-Serving Leaders. The RPP also stated that the walk is in protest of AFSPA and backdoor appointments, which they claim are stifling young people’s ambitions. The party further said that the walk is also intended to save Nagaland from a culture that views politics as a money-making machine. The walk is also against a culture that refuses to empower women and youths, as well as clan/village/tribe centric governance, which is at the foundation of all decadence in Naga politics, according to the party.

Aside from these concerns, the RPP stated that it “wishes to share its vision, aims and objectives, and opinions with the general public.”

The RPP then said that the walk is also for a fair election and the party’s promise of excellent administration. The RPP further said that the walk is also for the party to maintain the Rule of Peace; for the RPP to uphold law and order; and for a self-sufficient economy. The walk will also serve to educate people on the importance of voting for Godly candidates in elections and to show sympathy with the families of those killed in the Oting massacre.  The RPP also said that the walk would also emphasise the “risk of harbouring illegal immigrants in our nation and to defend Naga identity.”

The new political party in Nagaland said, “Through this walk, the RPP wishes to communicate the message that the Rising People’s Party is the sole choice for the suffering masses; that perhaps it is not too late to preserve Nagaland.”
