RRR’s ‘Naatu Naatu’ to be Performed Live at Oscars 2023
Guwahati: Rahul Sipligunj and Kaala Bhairava will sing the Oscar-nominated song “Naatu Naatu” from the SS Rajamouli-directed RRR at the 95th Academy Awards.
The multi-cultural hit is up for an award in the original song category alongside films like Tell it Like a Woman’s “Applause,” Top Gun Maverick’s “Hold My Hand,” Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’s “Lift Me Up,” and Everything Everywhere All at Once’s “This Is A Life,” according to Variety. All of these films are scheduled to perform at the 95th annual ceremony.
M.M. Keeravaani composed the song’s melody, and Chandrabose wrote the words.
Along with Rihanna, who will perform the Oscar-nominated song “Lift Me Up” from Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, David Byrne, Stephanie Hsu, and Son Lux will also hit the stage at the Oscars to perform “This Is a Life,” the Oscar-nominated song from Everything Everywhere All at Once.
The song won accolades on the international stage before it entered the Oscars. Naatu Naatu received the Golden Globe for “Best Original Song” in January. At the 28th annual Critics’ Choice Awards, ‘RRR’ won two more prizes five days later. The best song and best foreign film categories each have one entry each. Since then, the global chart has been dominated by “RRR” and “Naatu Naatu.”
The last stage of the shooting included the shooting of “Naatu Naatu.” Several months prior to the start of the Russian military invasion of Ukraine, it was filmed at the Mariinskyi Palace (Ukraine Presidential Palace) in Kyiv.
The song was also released in Hindi under the name “Naacho Naacho,” Tamil under the name “Naattu Koothu,” Kannada under the name “Halli Naatu,” and Malayalam under the name “Karinthol.” Rahul Sipligunj and Vishal Mishra sang the Hindi version of the song.
The song’s broad appeal through a happy mood and a dancing step hook that’s a rage is what makes it appealing to the audience. The lyrics also represent the culture of the nation, with each line generating feelings about the cuisine and the local flora and fauna.
