RTI Activist Dulal Bora Arrested in Delhi for Alleged Misuse of RTI Act
Guwahati, 25th September: Dulal Bora, an RTI activist accused of exploiting the Right to Information (RTI) Act for personal gain, was arrested by Delhi police on Wednesday. Bora had been evading authorities after his alleged misuse of the Act came to light.
According to sources, Bora was apprehended at a private hospital in Delhi, where he had admitted himself claiming illness. He is currently being held at Kirti Nagar police station for further legal action.
Bora rose to prominence after filing an RTI application regarding a government scheme in the Rajapukhuri panchayat, alleging irregularities in the construction of a local temple. Despite receiving responses from the relevant department, he allegedly continued to harass Devojit Hazarika, a panchayat representative.
The authorities have already arrested three individuals in connection with this case. Bora reportedly fled Assam for Delhi, where his daughter is studying, before being arrested.
His scheme involved using the RTI Act to gather sensitive information about government officials, which he would then leverage to lodge complaints and make serious allegations. Through networks of conduits and agents, Bora allegedly contacted these officials, demanding money in exchange for withdrawing the complaints.
