Guwahati: Russia has declared a ceasefire in Ukraine to allow civilians to flee the country, and it is prepared to create humanitarian corridors from Chernihiv, Sumy, Kharkiv, Mariupol, and Zaporizhzhia.
Russia has established a “silent mode” after announcing a humanitarian truce for Wednesday morning.
After both sides blamed each other for obstructing humanitarian corridors, this development has occurred.
The head of the humanitarian coordination centre, Mikhail Mizintsev, said Russia had offered Ukraine another chance to agree on civilian evacuation routes.
“The said statement should be immediately brought to the attention of the Ukrainian side and proposed by 03:00 [Moscow time, midnight GMT] on March 9, 2022 to agree on the indicated routes and the start time of the humanitarian corridors, as well as submit a written approval of these approaches, including guarantees to ensure security,” Mizintsev said.
Earlier on Tuesday, civilians were evacuated particularly from the town of Sumy. Furthermore, evacuations took place outside of Kyiv, the Ukrainian capital, after Russia granted a window for Indian people stranded in the city to be evacuated following President Vladimir Putin’s telephonic conversation with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
PM Modi also spoke with his Ukrainian colleague, Volodymyr Zelenskyy and urged both leaders to engage in talks and use diplomacy to address their concerns.
