Sachin Tendulkar Receives Col CK Nayudu Lifetime Achievement Award; Jasprit Bumrah Honored with Polly Umrigar Award
Sports: The BCCI’s annual awards ceremony, held on February 1, celebrated the achievements of India’s top cricketers, with legendary batsman Sachin Tendulkar receiving the Col CK Nayudu Lifetime Achievement Award.
Tendulkar, who has been a monumental figure in Indian cricket, expressed his gratitude for the recognition, reflecting on his 24-year-long journey in international cricket.
The 51-year-old has set unparalleled records, including the most runs in both Test and ODI cricket.
Tendulkar, known for his relentless pursuit of excellence, was lauded for his contributions to the sport and his continued involvement in mentoring and promoting cricket.
“I thank BCCI and all cricket lovers for allowing me to bat for India with an open heart and limitless boundaries,” Tendulkar said, recognizing the support from coaches, teammates, fans, and his family throughout his career.
In addition to Tendulkar, Jasprit Bumrah was honored with the Polly Umrigar Award for Best Men’s International Cricketer of 2023-24.
Bumrah, renowned for his skill and consistency, played a crucial role in India’s success in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy and in home wins against England and Bangladesh.
His exemplary performance earned him the ICC Test and Overall Cricketer of the Year award.
Smriti Mandhana, India’s elegant batter, took home the Best International Cricketer of 2023-24 in the women’s category.
Mandhana’s stellar performance, with 747 runs in 2024, including four centuries, cemented her status as one of the leading figures in women’s cricket.
Ravichandran Ashwin, India’s second-highest wicket-taker in Tests, was also acknowledged with a special award.
Ashwin, who retired in December 2024, played a pivotal role in India’s dominance in Test cricket over the past decade.
Among the newcomers, Sarfaraz Khan was awarded Best International Debut among men for his impactful performance against England, while Asha Sobhana won the women’s equivalent for her four-wicket haul against South Africa.
Mumbai’s Tanush Kotian was honored for Best Performance in the BCCI Domestic Tournaments, while the Mumbai Cricket Association was recognized for its outstanding achievements, including winning the Ranji Trophy and Irani Cup.
The evening also saw Akshay Totre being awarded the Best Umpire in Domestic Cricket for his exceptional officiating skills throughout the season.
The ceremony highlighted the tremendous talent and commitment of Indian cricketers, both past and present, to the sport.
