Sarma Cites “Civilizational Divide” with Pakistan, Urges India to Embrace Ideological Clarity
Guwahati: In a pointed response to recent remarks by Pakistan’s Army Chief General Asim Munir, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has called on India to acknowledge the enduring “civilizational divide” with its western neighbour, asserting that the time has come to abandon the illusion of rapprochement.
Referencing General Munir’s statements, Sarma highlighted the “deep-rooted ideological gulf” between India and Pakistan — spanning religion, customs, traditions, and national ambitions. “This reaffirmation of the Two-Nation Theory reminds us why Pakistan was created in the first place — because of these irreconcilable differences,” he wrote.
Emphasizing that the divide goes beyond politics and history, Sarma described it as fundamentally civilizational. “The delineation is clear; our paths are divergent,” he said, advocating for a national posture that strengthens India’s cultural identity and strategic resolve.
“It is now incumbent upon us to fortify our nation, uphold our dharma, and cherish our civilizational values. By doing so, we can ensure that our nation’s stature and influence ascend to unparalleled heights,” Sarma added.
His remarks, resonating strongly with nationalist circles, signal a firmer tone in India’s diplomatic approach and reflect a growing sentiment that normalization with Pakistan may be futile amid persistent ideological and strategic hostilities.
Known for his staunch advocacy of India’s cultural roots and national pride, CM Sarma’s latest statement reinforces his vision of a self-assured India — where ideological clarity and civilizational consciousness guide policymaking over idealistic diplomacy.
