SC Allows Floor Test In Maha Assembly Tomorrow at 11 am

Guwahati: The Supreme Court upheld Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari’s request for a floor test tomorrow (June 30) in the midst of political turmoil in the state.

The development comes after BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis and seven Independent MLAs put forth this demand citing the decision of 39 Shiv Sena MLAs led by Eknath Shinde to withdraw support to the Uddhav Thackeray-led government.

The no-confidence vote is expected to take place tomorrow at 11 am, according to reports.

Additionally, there are rumours that state chief minister Uddhav Thackeray may step down shortly because it is clear that the Maha Vikas Agadhi (MVA) government is in danger of failing.

Team Thackeray filed a petition with the Supreme Court in opposition to Governor Koshyari’s directive to demonstrate majority in the House at 11 a.m. tomorrow. They claimed that the order was unlawful since 16 rebel MLAs had not yet replied to notices from the Deputy Speaker regarding potential disqualification.

Governor Koshyari ordered the strength test a day after BJP leaders visited with him and informed him that the Thackeray-led coalition has lost its majority.

Earlier today, Eknath Shinde and the opposition Shiv Sena MLAs left Guwahati after nearly a week. They departed for the airport in the late evening and will travel to Goa before landing in Mumbai the following day.
