SC declines to extend VHP demonstrations against violence in Haryana

National Desk, 2nd August: The Supreme Court refused to order a stay of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) protests against the communal violence that broke out in Haryana’s Nuh district, but it did order the state government and the Delhi Police to ensure sure that there is no hate speech or violence during the rallies.

A bench led by Justice Sanjiv Khanna directed the deployment of additional police force or paramilitary force in sensitive areas.

“We hope and think that the state, working with the police, will ensure that no hate speech or violence is directed against any community or property. Additional police or paramilitary forces should be deployed if needed, and authorities should use CCTV cameras or make video recordings in all vulnerable areas as needed.” the court ordered.

Senior Advocate CU Singh, representing the petitioner, said there were fears of hate speech being made asking for the genocide of one community as the court heard an argument against the protests organized by VHP against the violence reported in Haryana.
