SC extends Interim Bail of Cong Leader Pawan Khera Till March 17

Guwahati: Congress leader Pawan Khera’s interim bail has been extended by the Supreme Court until March 17 in connection with alleged offensive remarks he allegedly made about Prime Minister Modi.

Khera’s provisional bail was increased by the Supreme Court on Friday. He was arrested at the Delhi Airport after alighting from a flight bound for Raipur.

Khera in the case has been arrested by the Assam Police. The hearing was postponed to March 17 by a three-judge bench consisting of Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud and Justices P S Narasimha and J B Pardiwala since time had run out. The bench added that it will hear the appeal after the Holi holiday and that the responses of Uttar Pradesh and Assam were not on record.

It was made clear that the temporary release ordered for Khera will continue until the case is heard on March 17. The court had earlier on February 27 extended the Congress spokesperson’s protection through Friday. Khera was deplaned from a flight to Raipur and then arrested at the Delhi airport for allegedly making anti-Modi statements at a press conference on February 17 in Mumbai. A magistrate court later granted him bail.
