SC Grants Interim Bail to Congress Leader Pawan Khera

Guwahati: Supreme Court granted interim bail to the Congress politician Pawan Khera on February 23 after hearing a case on the Congress leader alleged remarks insulting Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s father.

Khera had petitioned the Supreme Court requesting that it dismiss the various FIRs that had been brought against him in Assam, Varanasi, Lucknow and Uttar Pradesh.

Khera’s attorney, AS Singhvi requested both a temporary reprieve for the Congress leader and the amalgamation of all FIRs filed nationwide.

Khera had expressed apologies and said it was an error and slip of the tongue, Singhvi informed the Supreme Court.

Khera was arrested and would be brought before the court for transit remand, the Assam Police advocate testified before the Supreme Court.

Assam Police said the Congress leader used “derogatory remarks” against a “democratically elected PM”.

After he was deboarded from the Raipur-bound IndiGo flight at Delhi airport, the Congress leader was arrested by the Assam Police earlier in the day.
