SC to Hear Arvind Kejriwal’s Bail Plea in CBI Excise Policy Case Today
National Desk, 5th September: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s bail plea in connection with the excise policy case is set to be heard by the Supreme Court today. Kejriwal has been in judicial custody since his arrest by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on June 26.
While the Supreme Court had previously granted him interim bail in a related case filed by the Enforcement Directorate (ED), his arrest by the CBI was upheld by the Delhi High Court, keeping him in custody until September 11.
The CBI has since filed a fourth supplementary charge sheet, accusing Kejriwal of being the main conspirator in the case. The agency alleges that he used kickback funds for political purposes, including channeling money into the Aam Aadmi Party’s funds. The chargesheet also names other high-profile individuals, including K Kavitha and Raghav Magunta, as co-conspirators.
Kejriwal was initially arrested by the ED in March, followed by his arrest by the CBI in June. Though granted interim bail in the ED case, he continues to remain in jail due to the CBI’s ongoing investigation.
