“Scooty Silencer Used to Burn Me”: Youth Accuses Guwahati Police of Brutality

Guwahati: In a disturbing incident that has ignited widespread outrage, a youth named Aman Ali has leveled grave accusations against personnel of the Chandmari Police Station, alleging brutal assault and torture over a mere helmet violation.

The alleged incident which occurred around midnight on Friday at Commerce Point has left Ali with significant injuries and profound trauma, prompting an urgent call for justice.

Ali, who was reportedly on his way to deliver emergency medicine, recounted a horrifying ordeal where he was stopped by police during a routine check.

Despite his attempts to explain the urgency of his journey, he claims officers knocked him off his scooty, subjected him to a merciless beating, and engaged in what he described as inhumane torture.

In a social media post that has since gone viral, Ali detailed how police forcibly pressed his abdomen against the hot silencer of his scooty, resulting in severe burn injuries. “They treated me like a terrorist,” he wrote, recollecting the terrifying moments.

His account further alleges that officers pinned him down, continuing the assault, and even attempted to burn his face, which he narrowly avoided. Adding to the gravity of his claims, Ali stated that the officers demanded Rs 10,000 from him. When he was unable to produce the amount, they allegedly threatened to impound his vehicle. He offered Rs 8,000, but the officers reportedly refused online transfer, insisting on cash. According to Ali, one officer then suggested Rs 5,000 would suffice.

Following the alleged beating, Ali claims the officers damaged his scooty, confiscated his keys, and abandoned him on the road. He further asserted that he was kicked and thrown aside before they departed. “Six uniformed men treated me like a terrorist just because my name is Aman Ali. I thought they were going to shoot me,” he penned, adding that the alleged assault has left him with semi-paralysis in his left hand.

Compounding his distress, Ali also raised concerns about a possible communal angle, alleging that one officer made a derogatory remark after enquiring about his name.

Currently undergoing treatment for his burn injuries and emotional trauma, Aman Ali has issued a fervent appeal to the Director General of Police (DGP), the Chief Minister, and the public, seeking their intervention for justice.

In his widely circulated post, he has demanded compensation for his medical expenses and vehicle damage, alongside urging authorities to take swift and stringent action against the involved officers.

Following the incident, Aman and his parents went to Geetanagar Police Station to file an FIR. However, they were informed that the incident fell under the jurisdiction of Chandmari Police Station. Despite this, the authorities at Geetanagar PS recorded Aman’s statement and collected his medical report from KGMT Hospital. They arrived at the police station around 2:30 am and had their statements recorded at 3 am.

The incident has predictably sparked a firestorm of condemnation on social media, with numerous users demanding an immediate and impartial investigation into the shocking allegations.

As of now, neither the Chandmari Police Station nor the Assam Police headquarters have issued any official statement regarding the matter.
