Scrutiny of Nomination Papers Concludes for GMC Polls
Guwahati: Examined nomination papers for the impending Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) elections was conducted at the Rabindra Bhawan in Guwahati of Assam on Friday.
Pallav Gopal Jha, the District Commissioner of Kamrup, was in charge of the investigation (Metro).
A total of 217 candidates have filed candidacy for ward elections in Guwahati’s 60 wards.
According to reports, two candidates’ candidacy papers were denied. The nomination papers of 215 candidates were considered valid.
Pallav Gopal Jha said, “I would like to thank all officials for the smooth completion of nomination documents scrutiny today. We also hope that the GMC elections are held in a calm manner.”
“We will send the names of the lawfully nominated candidates to the Assam State Election Commission today,” Jha added.
The state election commission postponed the GMC elections polling and counting dates after the BJP, Congress, and AGP asked a rescheduling due to the approaching Rongali Bihu holiday.
The polling date has been changed to April 22, and the vote will be counted on April 24.
