Search Intensifies for Missing Assamese Music Legend Ramen Baruah

Guwahati, 24th July: A massive search operation is underway in the flooded Brahmaputra River in Dhubri District to locate the renowned Assamese music composer, Ramen Baruah, who has been missing for over 48 hours. Baruah, 84, disappeared from his home in Latasil, Guwahati, after leaving to visit a nearby temple on Monday morning.

The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) is spearheading the search efforts, with assistance from the police, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), and SDRF teams. Baruah’s family reported him missing when he failed to return by evening. CCTV footage later showed him walking towards the Brahmaputra riverbank near the Gauhati High Court, carrying a plastic bag. His last phone signal was also detected near the High Court.

Despite exhaustive searches in Guwahati and surrounding areas, no significant leads have emerged. The search area has now been extended to the Brahmaputra River in Dhubri District, including regions near the Indo-Bangladesh border, where recent flooding has hindered rescue operations.

The authorities remain hopeful for a breakthrough, while the musical community and fans of Ramen Baruah are deeply concerned and anxiously awaiting his safe return.
