Section 144 CrPC imposed in Assam’s Darrang
Guwahati: The Darrang district magistrate-imposed Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) in the area on Wednesday to prevent a violation of peace and quiet.
The order is effective immediately and will stay in effect until further orders are issued.
A prohibition on any procession, demonstration, or blockade on National Highway — 15 throughout the district has been issued by the district administration, according to an official statement.
The district magistrate stated in the notification order that roaming in public places, travelling in buses without wearing a face mask, entry of unauthorised persons or undue crowding, and dharna within 100 metres of the Deputy Commissioner’s office are all prohibited.
The magistrate further stated that gatherings of five or more people are prohibited without prior approval from the competent authority or the district administration.
Carrying bags, plastic sheets, and multi-layered packaging with a thickness of less than 50 microns; plastic cups with a diameter of less than 60 mm and a thickness of less than 50 microns; and short-life PVC and chlorinated plastic bags, sheets, banners, flex, bunting, and flags of any thickness are also prohibited.
Financial collection (chanda), coerced subscriptions/donations, roadside collecting, extortion in any form or manner by any person, business establishment, office, or intimidation of any type by any person or organisation for such collections have all been prohibited.
Moreover, the manufacture, storage, transportation, display, distribution, or sale of Gurkha, Pan Masala, or any other chewing items on the market that contain tobacco and/or nicotine as ingredients are prohibited.
Any person or group of people carrying or displaying arms, lathies, lethal weapons, sharp instruments, bows and arrows, daggers, Daos, Swords, Trishuls, etc. in public areas is prohibited.
The district magistrate further stated that if the prohibition order is broken, the violators will be prosecuted under his hand and seal on the second day of May.
