Security Breach in Manipur’s Thoubal: Police Outpost Attacked, Arms Looted, Militant Hideout Busted
Imphal: In a major security breach, a heavily armed group of around 30 miscreants launched an attack on the Kakmayai police outpost in Thoubal district on the night of February 8, 2025. The assailants, armed with sophisticated weapons, overpowered the police personnel on duty and fled with nine firearms, including six Self-Loading Rifles (SLRs) and three AK-series rifles.
Acting swiftly, security forces managed to apprehend one of the attackers, identified as Hijam Ningthem Singh (49) from Moirangpurel Mamang Leikai. Upon interrogation, Singh was confirmed to be a member of the proscribed militant outfit Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP). His arrest provided critical intelligence, leading to extensive search operations across the region.
On February 9, 2025, Manipur Police achieved a breakthrough by recovering eight out of the nine stolen firearms from the Ngamukhong foothill area. The retrieved weapons included three AK rifles and five SLRs, significantly crippling the militants’ firepower.
In a continued crackdown, security forces launched large-scale combing operations across Ningel, Malom, Toubul, and Langathel, uncovering a KCP hideout at Langathel Chingkhong. The raid led to the seizure of a massive cache of arms and ammunition, including:
• 48 live rounds of Insas and AK ammunition
• 25 empty cases of assorted ammunition
• 11 high-explosive (HE) grenades
• 2 arming rings
• 2 tube launchers
• 1 Carbine SMG magazine, 1 INSAS magazine, and 1 9mm pistol with three live rounds
• 1 stun shell
• 1 Nikon binocular
• 7 shoulder badges of KCP (PWG) and a nameplate marked “LAM MEITEI”
• 1 white Maruti Gypsy
• 5 bulletproof vests, 4 bulletproof plates, and 3 armored helmets
• Various military fatigues and tactical gear
Authorities have intensified their investigation and counter-insurgency operations to track down the remaining looted firearm and other militant hideouts. With security agencies placed on high alert, efforts are underway to prevent further insurgent activities and restore stability in the region.
The incident highlights the ongoing security challenges in Manipur and the resilience of law enforcement in countering armed insurgency. Further developments are expected as investigations continue.
