Assam: Security Forces Apprehend NSCN(KYA) Cadre, Younger Brother of Chairman, and Two PREPAK Cadres

Guwahati, 1st December: In a significant operation, security forces and police have successfully apprehended one NSCN(KYA) cadre, identified as Marmet Ngaimong, the younger brother of NSCN (KYA) chairman Yung Aung, along with two PREPAK (People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak) cadres in Assam’s Dibrugarh and Tinsukia districts.

The joint team, comprising ECIB Assam Police and 18 Garhwal Rifles, initiated the operation that led to the arrest of a Prepak cadre near Dibrugarh airport. Subsequent questioning revealed information about another Prepak cadre planning to cross over to Myanmar along with an NSCN(KYA) cadre. The security forces successfully nabbed the Prepak and NSCN(KYA) cadres from the Jagun area in Tinsukia, where they were reportedly planning to reach Myanmar via Digboi, Jagun, and Jairampur.

Marmet Ngaimong, the captured NSCN(KYA) cadre, was identified as the younger brother of NSCN (KYA) chairman Yung Aung. Security forces note that he played a coordinating role as per the directives of his elder brother, currently based in Myanmar. The two PREPAK cadres, Nongthombam Kabichandram Singh and Pebam Akash Singh, residents of Imphal East and Imphal West districts in Manipur, were also apprehended during the operation. The successful operation marks a significant stride in the efforts to address militancy in the region.
