Security Forces Apprehend Proscribed Militant in Manipur Crackdown

Imphal: In a significant breakthrough, security forces on Monday arrested a 23-year-old active member of the proscribed Revolutionary People’s Front/People’s Liberation Army (RPF/PLA) from Bishnupur district. The operation, part of intensified efforts to curb insurgency, saw the apprehension of Thongam Inaoba Meitei alias Lalaba from his residence in Laingoubi Maning Leikai, under Kumbi police station.

Sources revealed that Lalaba had undergone basic military training for 30 days at a camp located in neighbouring Myanmar. A Kechaoda keypad mobile phone with an Airtel SIM card was recovered from his possession during the raid. His arrest underscores the ongoing commitment of security forces to dismantle insurgent networks operating in the region.

The security establishment has substantially ramped up its operations across Manipur, with a specific focus on vulnerable and fringe areas. These proactive measures are aimed at preventing any untoward incidents and ensuring the safety and security of the public. On the very same day as the arrest, security forces successfully facilitated the movement of 243 vehicles laden with essential supplies along National Highway 37, providing crucial convoy support through sensitive stretches to ensure uninterrupted passage.

Furthermore, a total of 111 checkpoints have been established across various districts, encompassing both the hill and valley regions. These checkpoints are vital for monitoring and controlling suspicious activities. During these widespread operations, four individuals were detained for further questioning as authorities continue their comprehensive efforts to maintain law and order across the state. Search and area domination operations are expected to continue in the coming days as part of this broader strategy.
