Security Forces Arrest Multiple Insurgent Cadres in Manipur, Seize Arms Cache
Imphal: In a major crackdown on insurgent activities, security forces in Manipur arrested several active cadres belonging to various outlawed groups, including the RPF/PLA, PREPAK, KCP (Apunba), and KCP-PWG, on March 21.
The arrested individuals were allegedly involved in extortion targeting local businesses and the general public.
In Imphal East District, security personnel apprehended Laishram Romen Meitei (46), an active member of the RPF/PLA, from Uchol Makha Leikai under Andro Police Station. He was allegedly extorting civilians, and a mobile phone and wallet were seized from him.
On the same day, Nongthombam Kenedy Meitei alias Heiba (39), an operative of PREPAK, was arrested from Khurai Chingangbam Leikai near the Community Hall under Porompat Police Station. He was reportedly engaged in extortion activities.
In a separate operation, three active cadres of KCP (Apunba) were arrested from different locations in Imphal West District. The arrested individuals were identified as Mutum Jackson Meitei (20) of Lamdeng Thongkhong, Akoijam Sanjoy Singh (19) of Iroisemba Mayai Leikai, and Nongthombam Gopen Singh (59) of Phumlou Siphai.
Security forces recovered a substantial cache of arms and ammunition from their possession, including one INSAS rifle with a loaded magazine, one 9mm pistol with a loaded magazine, two air guns, one double-barrel gun, one Lathode gun body part, several firearm magazines, and explosive shells.
Further investigation led to the arrest of Ningthoujam Chalamba Singh (28) from Khurai Kongpal Sajor Leikai, Imphal East. Identified as the commander of the three KCP (Apunba) cadres, he was found in possession of two mobile phones.
In another successful operation, a joint team of Manipur Police and Assam Rifles apprehended Thangmangjam Naoba Singh (28) alias Pamuba, a member of KCP-PWG, from Mayang Langjing Bazar in Imphal West. He was allegedly involved in extortion, issuing threats, and collecting money from local businesses, including stone crushers and shops.
Additionally, on March 20, security forces arrested Ningthoujam Sundar Singh alias Ningthouba alias Yening (24), an operative of PREPAK (Pro), from Moirang Lamkhai in Bishnupur District. A mobile phone and an Airtel SIM card were seized from his possession.
Authorities have intensified operations against insurgent groups, focusing on dismantling their extortion networks and ensuring public safety. Investigations are ongoing to identify further links and collaborators.
