Security Forces Bust Major Narcotics Operations in Manipur, Arrest Myanmar National
Imphal: In a decisive crackdown on drug trafficking, security forces in Manipur arrested three individuals, including a Myanmar national, and seized a substantial quantity of narcotics in two separate operations on March 12, 2025.
The arrests mark a significant step in the state’s intensified campaign against cross-border smuggling and the illegal drug trade.
In the first operation, security personnel apprehended Hery, a 32-year-old resident of Tamu, Myanmar, near New Shijang village under Moreh Police Station in Tengnoupal District. He was intercepted while traveling on a bike from Haolenphai. A search of his belongings led to the seizure of 4.4 kg of WIY tablets, a mobile phone, a two-wheeler, and an individual MSF appointment card, indicating possible links to organized networks.
In a separate operation in Imphal West District, Manipur Police arrested two individuals, Thao David Chothe (21) and Yulung Jefferson Chothe (23), near the Winger parking area at North AOC. Acting on intelligence inputs, authorities recovered 47.6 kg of suspected ganja from the duo, further exposing the deep-rooted drug supply chain operating within the region.
With Manipur being a crucial transit point for narcotics smuggling due to its proximity to the Myanmar border, security forces have ramped up anti-narcotics operations to curb the inflow of illicit substances. Authorities remain on high alert, vowing to dismantle trafficking networks and prevent the state from becoming a hub for drug-related crimes.
