Security Forces Bust NRFM Hideout in Manipur, Arrest Seven Militants

Imphal: In a major counter-insurgency operation, security forces in Manipur’s Imphal East district dismantled a hideout belonging to the outlawed National Revolutionary Front of Manipur (NRFM) and arrested seven militants, officials said on Monday.

Acting on intelligence inputs, police launched a raid in Tellou Makha Leikai on Sunday, successfully nabbing the insurgents and recovering a significant cache of arms and ammunition.

The seized items included an A1 assault rifle with a magazine and 15 cartridges, an AK-47 rifle with a magazine and 13 cartridges, two INSAS rifles with magazines and 12 cartridges, two self-loading rifles with magazines and 30 cartridges, and five bulletproof jackets, among other items.

The arrested individuals have been identified as:

  • Moirangthem Somokanta Singh alias Pakpa (26 years)
  • Thongam Iboton Singh alias Thouyangba (34 years)
  • Heisanam Rohit Meitei alias Mangangngamba (32 years)
  • Yaikhom Inao Singh alias Chinglai (20 years)
  • Nameirakpam Jotin Meitei alias Pherappa (33 years)
  • Ningthoujam Premkumar Singh alias Punsirol (32 years)
  • Hemam John Singh alias Athoiba (33 years)

Authorities have stated that the operation marks a significant blow to the NRFM, which has been involved in insurgent activities, extortion, and attacks on security forces in the region.

Further investigations are underway to trace additional operatives and hidden weapon caches, with officials confirming that intensive counter-insurgency efforts will continue across the state to curb insurgent activities.
