Security Forces Conduct Extensive Operations in Manipur, Seize Weapons and Explosives

Northeast Desk, 14th August: In a determined effort to bolster security in Manipur’s sensitive hill and valley districts, security forces launched comprehensive search operations and area domination exercises on August 13. These operations, focused on the region’s fringe and vulnerable zones, led to the significant seizure of a range of weapons, explosives, and other hazardous materials.

The first major operation took place in the Saikul ridge area of Churachandpur district, where security personnel uncovered a cache of lethal weaponry. The haul included a 9mm pistol, two modified long-range mortar launchers (known locally as Pompis), a single-barrel 12-bore long-range gun, two HE-36 hand grenades, 37 live rounds of ammunition, and two detonator fuses. The strategic concealment of these items has raised concerns about potential plans for their use in future violent activities.

Simultaneously, in the Champhai Hill area of Imphal East District, another operation yielded the discovery of three improvised explosive launchers (Pompis), a magazine pouch, and a bulletproof jacket. The presence of such sophisticated and dangerous equipment underscores the persistent security challenges in the region.

Authorities are now intensifying their intelligence-gathering efforts to trace and dismantle any remaining networks that may pose a threat to peace and stability. The operations mark a critical step in maintaining order and preventing further escalation of violence in Manipur’s troubled areas.
