Guwahati, Assam, India – In a series of coordinated efforts, Manipur’s security forces and state police have successfully apprehended four active members belonging to different proscribed insurgent organizations across various districts, marking a notable setback for underground operations in the region.
The initial breakthrough occurred on April 5th in the Kakching district, where security personnel, conducting a targeted search operation within the jurisdictions of Hiyanglam Tera Pishak and Hiyanglam Mayai Leikai under the Hiyanglam Police Station, successfully arrested Elangbam Robichandra Singh, aged 46. Singh is identified as an active member of the United People’s Party of Kangleipak (UPPK).
Simultaneously, in the Bishnupur district, another significant arrest was made. Taorem Ranjit Singh, 49, an active cadre associated with the Kangleipak Communist Party (People’s War Group), was apprehended by security forces in the Moirang Okshongbung Shribon IV Road area.
Further bolstering the day’s success, Manipur police in Bishnupur district also apprehended a juvenile operative linked to the KCP (MC Progressive) from the bustling Nambol Bazar. Authorities confiscated a motorcycle, a mobile handset, and a SIM card from the individual, who is reportedly involved in ongoing underground activities.
The string of successful operations continued with the arrest of Hemam Priyokumar Meitei, 32, a member of the KCP(PWG) residing near Moirang College Gate, originally from Moirang Panshang Leikai. He was apprehended during a search operation encompassing the Potshangbam, Toupoki, and Ningthoukhong areas under the Bishnupur Police Station. A mobile handset was seized from Meitei, who is alleged to be directly involved in extortion rackets operating within the Bishnupur and Nambol areas. These coordinated arrests underscore the ongoing efforts by security forces to dismantle the networks of insurgent groups and maintain peace and stability in Manipur.
