Security Forces Destroy Illegal Poppy Plantations in Tengnoupal; RPF/PLA Member Arrested in Manipur

Tengnoupal: In a coordinated crackdown on illegal narcotics cultivation, security forces and the Forest Department, under the supervision of the District Magistrate, conducted a major operation in the Khudei Laipham hill range under Tengnoupal Police Station. The operation resulted in the destruction of approximately 10 acres of illicit poppy plantations.

Authorities have since registered a case at Tengnoupal Police Station, with further investigations underway to identify and prosecute those involved in the illegal cultivation. The latest action forms part of ongoing efforts to combat drug production and trafficking in the region.

In a separate development, Manipur Police apprehended an active member of the banned Revolutionary People’s Front (RPF)/People’s Liberation Army (PLA) on Monday, February 17.

The suspect, identified as Shamurailatpam Bipin Sharma alias Nanda (56), was arrested from Khongman Mangjil, Zone-I, in Imphal East.

Authorities revealed that Sharma had been actively extorting money from the public, government officials, and educational institutions, including schools and colleges. His arrest marks a significant step in the state’s efforts to curb insurgency-linked extortion activities and maintain law and order.

The crackdown on illegal narcotics cultivation and insurgency-linked crimes reflects the government’s commitment to tackling organized crime and ensuring regional security in Manipur.
