Security Forces in Manipur Seize Large Cache of Arms and Ammunition in Ongoing Operations
Northeast Desk, 11th August: Security forces in Manipur have made significant strides in their ongoing efforts to maintain order in the state’s hill and valley districts by seizing a substantial cache of arms and ammunition during frequent search operations and area domination exercises. These operations have been particularly focused on fringe and vulnerable areas, where illegal arms activities are more prevalent.
During a routine check in Molnom village, located in Tengnoupal district, security personnel seized a variety of items, including two double-barrel guns, a handheld Motorola small set, one pair of binoculars, and three Aadhaar cards. This discovery highlights the range of items that can be linked to illegal activities in the region.
In a separate raid conducted in the Mongjam and Taorem villages of Imphal East District, security forces confiscated a single-barrel gun (country-made), two suspected improvised explosive devices (IEDs), a country-made 9mm pistol with a magazine, and five live rounds of ammunition. The raid also led to the seizure of eight HE-36 hand grenades, two tube launchers, an INSAS rifle magazine, four .303 LMG magazines, two ‘BAOFENG’ radio wireless sets, three smoke grenades, and a stun grenade.
Additionally, in another operation in the foothills of Wathou Ridge in Thoubal District, security forces recovered a modified AK rifle, a bore barrel, an anti-riot gun, and two country-made 9mm pistols. The cache also included ten HE-36 hand grenades, a 2-inch mortar shell, an 80 MK-I shell, four rubber bullets, various tear smoke shells, 54 rounds of live ammunition, three detonators, two Baofeng radio sets, and multiple types of MK cartridges.
These successful operations by the security forces underscore their commitment to curbing illegal arms activities in Manipur, contributing to the overall safety and security of the state. The seizures are part of a broader strategy to dismantle the networks involved in the proliferation of illegal arms and to ensure peace in the region.
