Security Forces Intensify Operations in Manipur, Seize Large Cache of Arms and Ammunition

Northeast Desk, 19th August: In a bid to bolster security and curb militant activities in Manipur, security forces have launched extensive search and area domination operations across the fringe and vulnerable areas of the state’s hill and valley districts. These operations have led to significant recoveries of arms and ammunition, underscoring the ongoing efforts to maintain peace and order in the region.

In Thoubal district, security forces conducted a series of searches in Uyok Ching Leirongthel Pitra, which resulted in the discovery of a substantial cache of weaponry and explosives. The recovered items included a 9 mm SMG with a magazine, a 12-Bore Single Barrel Gun, a 9mm pistol, a .32 pistol, two tube launchers, two MK III A2 grenades, two detonators, six HE-36 hand grenades, three arming rings, one Chinese hand grenade, 65 live ammunition rounds, five tear smoke shells, one stun grenade, a helmet BP Patka, and a Baofeng walkie-talkie with a charger.

In a separate operation in Mission Veng, Kangpokpi district, security forces recovered additional arms and ammunition. The haul included a 7.62mm SLR with a magazine, a bolt action rifle, two 12-inch single bore barrel guns, six live ammunition rounds, ten fired cases, and two HE-36 hand grenades, although these grenades were without detonators.

These operations reflect the heightened vigilance and proactive measures being taken by security forces to ensure the safety and security of the region’s residents. The recoveries of such a wide array of weaponry highlight the persistent threat posed by militant groups in the area and the importance of ongoing security efforts to neutralize these threats.
