Security Forces Intensify Vigil in Manipur, Arrest Five in Separate Operations
Security forces in Manipur have heightened their vigilance across the state, launching a series of operations and arresting five individuals in separate incidents.
An active cadre of the proscribed group People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK-Pro) was arrested on 1st April for involvement in extortion activities in various institutes in and around the Wangoo Chairel and Pangaltabi areas of Kakching district.
The individual, Moirangthem Roshan Singh (40) of Chairel Awang Leikai, Kakching district, was apprehended near a waiting shed in Aihang Village. A mobile phone was seized from his possession.
In another operation, security forces arrested one individual in possession of Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL). Jamminthang Haokip (28) of Canan Veng, Moreh Ward No.VII, was detained at Tengnoupal Naka Check Post in Tengnoupal. Authorities confiscated three boxes containing 72 half-litre plastic bottles of IMFL from his possession.
Meanwhile, on the same day, police arrested the administrator of a Facebook page for spreading fake news containing communal-sensitive content, which had the potential to disturb public peace and tranquillity. The arrested individual was identified as Seram Suraj Meetei (25) of Wangoo Terakhong Awang Leikai, Bishnupur district.
Additionally, during an operation conducted on 31st March, Manipur police arrested two individuals, identified as Wahengbam Binanta Singh (45) and Hijam Gogoba Singh (44), both residents of Imphal East district. The duo were apprehended for facilitating underground organisations in extortion activities targeting transport vehicles in the Sekmai area, Imphal West district.
From their possession, a mobile handset and a four-wheeler were seized.
During search operations and area domination exercises in Imphal West district, security personnel also confiscated magazines, ammunition, blank cartridges, tear smoke shells, grenades, a bulletproof vest, a camouflage helmet, and a BAOFENG handheld set.
