Security Forces Mount Coordinated Crackdown on Insurgents in Manipur

Imphal: In a series of swift and coordinated actions, security forces in Manipur have delivered a significant blow to several banned insurgent outfits, apprehending multiple active cadres and seizing a substantial cache of arms and contraband.

The intensified crackdown, carried out over the past two days, underscores a firm resolve to curb illegal activities and restore normalcy in the state. On August 10, an active member of the KCP (City Meitei), identified as Thongam Prakash Meitei, was arrested from Heibongpokpi area in Imphal West district. On the same day, another KCP (PWG) cadre, Hodam Bikram Singh, was nabbed from Khabeisoi Ishirou in Imphal East.

Security personnel also arrested Mathurabasimayum Arnold Sharma, another KCP (City Meitei) member, from his residence in Sagolband Tera Moirang Hanuba Leirak. A day earlier, on August 9, a UNLF (P) member, Thoudam Bobby Singh, was apprehended in his native village of Toubul Mayai Leikai in Bishnupur district. His interrogation led to a major recovery of a .303 rifle with a magazine, five additional magazines for different rifles, a No. 36 hand grenade, and a massive haul of 501 live ammunition rounds of various calibres. The team also seized two .303 ammunition chargers, a gun case, and a mobile phone.

In a separate operation on the same day, Manipur Police acted on intelligence to apprehend a juvenile from Kwakta Kutthabi area in Bishnupur, seizing eight soap cases containing approximately 100 grams of brown sugar. The security apparatus has also maintained a strong presence on the ground, establishing 111 checkpoints across hill and valley districts, which led to the detention of 12 individuals for further questioning.

These ongoing search and area domination operations are part of a larger strategy to maintain law and order in vulnerable and fringe areas across the state.
