Security Forces Nab Banned UNLF Cadre in Manipur’s Kakching

Guwahati: A member of the outlawed United National Liberation Front (UNLF) was arrested during an operation in the state’s southern region and afterwards given to the Manipur police for further processing, a defence wing press statement said.

A UNLF Cadre was arrested on Tuesday by Phundrei Battalion working under the direction of Headquarters Inspector General of Assam Rifles (South) with assistance from the Manipur police. The location of the hiding was Umathel Bazaar, Waikhong in Kakching District.

A joint operation by Phundrei Battalion and Commando representative from Waikhong police station was launched in response to specific intelligence input received regarding the presence of suspected UNLF cadre in Umathel Bazaar, Waikhong in Kakching District in the southern part of the state. This operation led to the capture of one UNLF cadre, Self Styled Sergeant Major Hemam Nungshiba alias Maniton, from Umathel Bazaar.

The arrested insurgent participated in the illegal activities of the district’s outlawed organisation.

The statement further said that he was turned over to Waikhong Police Station for ongoing legal processes.
