Security Forces Nab Four SOREPA Members, Uncover Weapons Caches in Manipur
Imphal: In a major counter-insurgency breakthrough, security forces apprehended four members of the Socialist Revolutionary Party (SOREPA) during a coordinated operation near the Indo-Myanmar border on January 19.
The arrests occurred near Border Pillar 79 in Pangal Basti, under the jurisdiction of Moreh Police Station in Tengnoupal District.
The detained individuals have been identified as Leishangthem Somorjit Singh (34), Pebam Malemnganba Singh (18), Laishram Nelson Singh (22), and Ningthoujam Milan Meitei (25).
Authorities recovered a smartphone along with three SIM cards from the suspects, which are expected to aid in ongoing investigations.
In parallel efforts, security forces uncovered significant weapons caches in multiple districts of Manipur. At PK Park in Torbung, Churachandpur District, an arsenal was seized, including a 9mm submachine gun, a .303 rifle, a smoke grenade launcher, two pistols, and several explosive devices. The haul also included four hand grenades without detonators and five rounds of 9mm ammunition.
Another major recovery was made in Maohing village, Kangpokpi District, where security personnel discovered locally manufactured weapons, including a cannon, a double-barrel bore gun, and various ammunition. The items seized included a .303 rifle, a locally made 9mm pistol, two hand grenades without detonators, and multiple rounds of ammunition.
These operations form part of intensified security measures across Manipur’s hill and valley districts, with a special focus on fringe and vulnerable areas.
A case has been registered, and further investigations are underway to uncover more details about these insurgent networks and their operations.
