Security Forces Net Two Militants, Recover Large Arms Cache in Manipur
Imphal: Manipur witnessed a significant security operation on April 7th as security forces successfully apprehended two active militants belonging to proscribed organizations during coordinated raids across several districts.
The operations, conducted in Imphal East, Churachandpur, and Kangpokpi, resulted in the seizure of a substantial quantity of arms and explosives.
Among those arrested is Ningombam Ajitkumar Singh, a 49-year-old active cadre of the United People’s Party of Kangleipak (UPPK). Singh was apprehended in the Pebiya Pandit Leikai area of Imphal East.
Authorities have identified him as a resident of Singjamei Makha Khongnang Pheidekpi, Imphal West, and allege his involvement in extortion activities targeting both the public and private educational institutions within Imphal. A two-wheeler and a mobile phone were recovered from his possession following his arrest.
In a separate operation, security forces also detained Thokchom Ningthem Meitei, a 48-year-old active member of the People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK). Meitei was apprehended in Keirao Wangkhem village, near the TB Hospital in Imphal East district.
Subsequent extensive search operations conducted in various locations, including areas around Thangjing hill in Churachandpur, Keirao Wangkhem and the foothills of Ngariyan hill range in Imphal East, and along the track connecting N. Boljang and Zero Point in Kangpokpi, yielded a significant haul of arms, ammunition, and other war-related materials.
The recovered items include assault rifles, improvised mortar bombs, tear smoke grenades, stun grenades, alum explosives, hand grenades, launchers and projectile systems, a short-range projectile launcher, tube launchers, Pull Mech rifles, a quantity of ammunition, protective gear, and communication devices. These successful operations are viewed as a major setback for militant groups active in the region, occurring amidst intensified efforts to establish peace and stability in Manipur following a period of sustained unrest.
