Security Forces Recover Explosives in Manipur’s Churachandpur Amid Heightened Militancy Threat
Northeast Desk, 21st September: In a series of search operations conducted in the fringe and vulnerable areas of Churachandpur, Manipur, security forces recovered a significant cache of weapons and explosives on September 21. Among the recovered items were an improvised rocket shell, three live rocket head ammunition of various sizes, three improvised mortar devices (locally known as “pumpi”), three anti-riot stun shells, and a stun grenade.
This discovery underscores the ongoing security challenges in the region and highlights the persistent threat posed by militant groups. The recovery comes at a time when security forces are ramping up preparedness in response to intelligence suggesting potential militant violence in peripheral villages.
Manipur Security Advisor Kuldiep Singh revealed on September 20 that security forces have taken several precautionary steps following intelligence reports of potential militant activity. Singh confirmed the infiltration of approximately 900 well-trained Kuki militants from Myanmar and warned of possible attacks around September 28.
To address this threat, a Strategic Operation Group meeting was held on September 18, involving top officials from the Army, Assam Rifles, and CRPF. The government is actively working to prevent any violent escalation and ensure the safety of the region.
