Imphal: In an extensive search operation across the fringe and vulnerable areas of Manipur’s hill and valley districts, security forces uncovered a significant cache of weapons and ammunition.
Among the recovered items were four 12-bore single-barrel rifles, a 7.62 mm locally made rifle, and a .303 rifle, along with three country-made “Pompi” firearms and a Lathode gun. Additional findings included two AK-47 magazines and 40 rounds of live ammunition, highlighting the concealed firepower within the region.
The operation also led to the seizure of three improvised explosive devices (IEDs), two communication handsets with a charger, and a .36 high-explosive (HE) grenade. Further discoveries included two 9mm country-made pistols with a magazine, a .22 rifle with a magazine, a launcher labeled as “Pompi,” six live rounds, and 27 empty shell casings.
In the Utangpokpi Hill area of Kakching district, the team also found two smoke grenades, five tear gas shells, a “BAOFENG” communication handset, a pistol holster, two bulletproof jackets with a BP plate, and jungle boots.
