The situation in Manipur’s Jiribam district has become increasingly tense following the brutal murder of a 59-year-old resident from Sorok Atingbi Khunou on June 6. The murder has sparked widespread fear and violence, leading residents to abandon their homes in search of safety.

In Mongbung Khul, the fear-stricken populace has sought refuge at the LP School in Chingdong Leikai, highlighting the community’s urgent need for protection and security.

The unrest escalated further with reports of arson attacks on residential properties. A house in Nunkhal and a farmhouse in Leisabithol were set ablaze by unknown perpetrators, intensifying the residents’ insecurity.

Jiribam, traditionally known for its peaceful coexistence of mixed populations, has seen its tranquillity shattered by these recent violent events. In response to the escalating violence, authorities have imposed Section 144 to restore order and ensure the safety of the residents.

The recent surge in violence and insecurity has prompted calls for unity and vigilance among the communities. Authorities are working diligently to restore peace and provide necessary protections to those affected. The imposition of Section 144 and the ongoing security operations aim to stabilize the region and reassure the residents of their safety.
