Security Forces Score Big Against Insurgents in Arunachal Pradesh
Itanagar: In a significant crackdown on insurgent activities, security forces in Arunachal Pradesh’s Longding district have achieved major breakthroughs, arresting a senior NSCN-K operative and neutralising two militants in separate operations.
On June 5, personnel from 24 Assam Rifles, acting on intelligence from Military Intelligence Kolkata, conducted a targeted operation in Dasatong village, leading to the arrest of SS Sergeant Major Manting Wangnowham, a resident of the village. Wangnowham, a senior NSCN-K (Nikki Sumi) operative, had reportedly arrived in the area on June 3 with the intention of conducting extortion activities.
In a separate incident, border security forces engaged suspected NSCN(K-YA) militants in a fierce firefight near the Myanmar boundary, resulting in the neutralisation of two insurgents. The encounter began when an army patrol unit responded to intelligence reports and came under attack from militants operating across the porous Indo-Myanmar border.
The deceased militants were identified as Sergeant Major Nyaklung and Lance Corporal Neyung Aung, both believed to be members of the National Socialist Council of Nagaland (K-YA) faction. The surviving insurgents retreated into Myanmar territory, taking advantage of the dense forest cover.
These operations demonstrate the security forces’ continued efforts to tackle insurgency in the region and highlight the importance of intelligence-driven operations in disrupting militant activities.
