Northeast Desk, 28th June: Security forces in Manipur, during regular search operations and area domination exercises across the state, have seized a significant cache of arms and ammunition, detaining 68 individuals in connection with various violations.
The operations, conducted in the vulnerable hill and valley districts, saw the installation of 123 Nakas/checkpoints across different districts. These measures aimed to enhance security and maintain order amidst ongoing tensions in the region.
Additionally, the movement of 134 vehicles along NH-37 and 177 vehicles along NH-2, carrying essential items, was ensured with stringent security protocols in place. Security convoys were deployed in sensitive stretches to guarantee the safe passage of these vehicles.
In the Naorem Leikai Pena Khongba area of Imphal West, security forces recovered two pistols, twelve live rounds of ammunition, and one hand grenade without a detonator.
Another operation in Chingphei Village and Heichanglok, Churachandpur district, led to the seizure of three improvised firearms (three pumps). Further, in the Singtom village area of Kakching District, authorities recovered two HE-36 grenades with detonators and fuses, one bulletproof vest, one combat t-shirt, and one plastic carrying bag.
These operations are part of ongoing efforts by security forces to stabilize the region and curb illegal activities. The confiscated arms and ammunition, along with the detained individuals, underline the persistent challenges faced in maintaining peace and security in Manipur.
