Security Forces Seize Large Cache of Arms and Explosives in Manipur

Imphal: In a major crackdown on illegal arms and explosives, security forces in Manipur seized a significant cache of weapons and ammunition during multiple search operations in fringe and vulnerable areas across hill and valley districts.

These operations, aimed at preventing militant activities, were conducted as part of ongoing area domination exercises.

On February 3, security personnel recovered a stockpile of deadly weapons from Phougakchao Mamang Leikai, near the banks of Khuga River, in the adjoining area of Kolbung under Phougakchao Ikhai Police Station, Bishnupur district.

The seized items included one AK-47 rifle with a magazine loaded with five live rounds, one 2-inch mortar, two SMG carbines with two empty magazines, two country-made 9mm pistols with magazines, three high-explosive (HE) hand grenades without detonators, two IEDs, 20 explosive gelatine sticks, and five 9mm live rounds.

In another successful operation on February 2, security forces from COB Larong raided an area along the Duthang Laiching track in Tengnoupal district.

The search resulted in the seizure of one 9mm pistol with a magazine, one country-made AK-47 with a magazine, one country-made .303 rifle, one country-made 12 bore rifle, 80 cartridges for the 12 bore rifle, six 9mm live rounds, 40 7.62mm live rounds, and three 7.65mm live rounds.

Continuing their operations, security personnel seized more explosives on February 3 from Moirangpurel Khunou Leikai under Thoubal Dam Police Station in Imphal East district. The recovered items included one 4 kg IED, one 2 kg IED, and approximately 35 meters of Cordtex.

The seizures highlight the persistent threat of armed activities in Manipur and the unwavering efforts of security forces to neutralize such threats. Officials stated that intelligence-based operations will continue to ensure the safety of civilians and prevent insurgent groups from stockpiling weapons.
