Imphal: In a significant crackdown on the drug trade in Manipur, security forces seized 2.037 kg of suspected opium, locally known as “Kani,” at the T. Khullen Naka Checkpost in Senapati district on January 14. The operation, based on intelligence inputs, also led to the arrest of Ramesh Kumar, 35, who was carrying the contraband on a two-wheeler.
Apart from the opium, the authorities recovered a mobile handset, an Aadhaar card, a driving license, and Rs 2,000 in cash. The arrested individual is currently under investigation, with officials working to uncover the network involved in the drug trade.
Meanwhile, security forces intensified their area domination exercises and search operations in vulnerable areas across the hill and valley districts. Measures were implemented to ensure the safe movement of essential goods along National Highways 37 and 2. On January 14, 213 and 377 vehicles carrying essential items were escorted along NH-37 and NH-2, respectively.
Additionally, 106 checkpoints were established across the state to enhance security. Although no violations were reported during these checks, strict measures remain in place to safeguard sensitive areas and ensure uninterrupted transport of essential commodities.
These efforts underline the commitment of security forces to eradicate the drug menace while maintaining law and order in the state.
