Security Scaled Down for Former Manipur CM N Biren Singh Amid Ongoing Unrest
Imphal: Former Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh met Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla at Raj Bhavan on Tuesday to discuss the escalating unrest and administrative challenges facing the state under President’s Rule. The high-level meeting comes amid a period of continued tension and realignment of state protocols.
Shortly after the meeting, the Manipur Police issued a directive to significantly reduce the security detail assigned to Singh. Seventeen police personnel, previously part of his protection team, have been relieved of their duties and instructed to report back to their respective parent units, according to an order signed by the Director General of Police.
With this decision, only six personnel will now remain with the former CM — including three assistant sub-inspectors, one head constable, and two constables. The move reflects the government’s current approach to managing limited security resources during a politically sensitive phase.
The security revision follows Biren Singh’s resignation on February 9, 2025, and the imposition of President’s Rule just days later on February 13. Sources indicate that the realignment of Singh’s security was among the topics discussed during his meeting with the Governor.
Officials describe the adjustment as part of a broader effort to ensure efficient deployment of manpower amid heightened volatility in the state. The reshuffling of security arrangements for Singh underscores the administration’s evolving strategy to stabilize Manipur’s governance apparatus.
As unrest continues to challenge civil order in Manipur, Tuesday’s developments signal the state’s ongoing recalibration of political, administrative, and security frameworks to restore stability.
