Senior SDF Leader KN Rai’s Health Improves, Stable After Assault

Northeast Desk, 2nd March: The health condition of senior Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF) Party leader KN Rai has improved, with doctors confirming his stability, an official stated on Saturday.

Dr. PD Bhutia, a physician from Neotia, informed the media that Rai’s vitals are stable, and he is not on life support. Additionally, there is no brain hemorrhage, and all organs are functioning normally and are safe.

According to reports, Rai is expected to recover within 5-6 days. A 3D image circulating on social media purportedly showing Rai’s CT scan indicates a normal scan with the exception of a facial bone fracture.

Rai and SDF spokesperson Dr. Shiva Kumar Timshina were reportedly physically assaulted by members of the Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) party at Mazi Gaon, Melli around 2:30 pm.

The SDF has strongly condemned the attack and called for immediate police intervention. The incident raises concerns about the state of democracy and the rule of law in Sikkim.

Previously, alleging attacks on its cadres by the ruling Sikkim Krantikari Morcha, the opposition Sikkim Democratic Front urged the Election Commission to impose central rule in the state ahead of Lok Sabha and assembly polls.

Assembly elections in Sikkim are expected to be held concurrently with the Lok Sabha polls sometime in April-May.
