Serving IRBn Constable Among Three Arrested in Pasighat Drug Bust; Over 42 Grams of Suspected Heroin Seized
In a major crackdown on drug trafficking, Pasighat Police in Arunachal Pradesh arrested three individuals — including a serving constable of the Indian Reserve Battalion (IRBn) — and seized over 42 grams of suspected heroin in a well-coordinated multi-location operation.
Acting on specific intelligence, a team led by Inspector Ige Lollen from Pasighat Police Station raided a rented house in Gumin Nagar. The house was occupied by Mijom Damin, an IRBn personnel currently on leave. The search, conducted under the NDPS Act and in the presence of independent witnesses, led to the recovery of 10.64 grams of suspected heroin, a mobile phone, and ₹2,000 in cash.
Upon interrogation, Damin confessed that the narcotics had been supplied by one Ojong Osik. Following this lead, the team — under the supervision of SDPO Dr. Akanksha Milind Tamgadge — moved swiftly to Kesung Paatang, where Osik was arrested with an additional 15.81 grams of suspected heroin.
A case (No. 25/2025) under sections 21(B)/27(2) of the NDPS Act was registered at Pasighat Police Station, with the investigation handed over to SI C I Manchey. Subsequent interrogation led police to a third suspect, Sujit Das, allegedly operating out of Jonai in Assam. In a collaborative effort with Assam Police, a second team headed by SI K Dagium apprehended Das at 9:30 PM and seized 16.19 grams of suspected heroin from his possession.
The total haul from the operation amounted to 42.64 grams of suspected heroin. All three accused — Mijom Damin, Ojong Osik, and Sujit Das — have been arrested and are currently in police custody.
Following his arrest, the Commanding Officer of the 5th IRBn placed Constable Damin under immediate suspension and initiated disciplinary proceedings.
Commending the swift and coordinated police action, East Siang SP Pankaj Lamba reiterated the district police’s zero-tolerance policy on drug-related crimes. He urged the public to cooperate by reporting any drug-related information to the Anti-Drug Squad, assuring that all identities will be kept strictly confidential.
