Seven Arrested For Passing Lewd Comments at Minor Girls
Guwahati: Seven youths have been arrested by Assam police for reportedly making indecent remarks to two minor girls in the Hailakandi district.
Following their arrest, a court ordered the seven of them to be produced and remanded to judicial custody.
Meanwhile, a case has been filed against them under the pertinent portions of the POCSO Act, which protects children from sexual offences.
According to reports, they allegedly made crude remarks about two minor girls who were Middle English School students in the Lala area while they were travelling from the Bilaipur area to Hailakandi.
Reportedly, the school’s headmaster and a few other staff tried to catch them by pursuing them on motorcycles. They later reported the incident to the police.
“We registered a case under the POCSO Act based on the complaint lodged by the head master of Chandrapur ME School and arrested all seven accused persons from Bilaipur area along Assam-Mizoram border. They allegedly made vulgar comments at two minor girl students of the school. We have produced the arrested persons before the court and the court sent them to the judicial custody,” Alongbar Basumatary, Officer-in-Charge of Lala police station said.
The arrested youths identified as Kashim Uddin, Rejaul Islam, Barbhuiya, Samir Uddin, Sharif Uddin, Afjal Hussain and Najmul Hoque.
